Looking forward to the season of Harvest, we’re calling on everyone in South Liverpool to do something amazing and help support local people facing hardship.
Food banks across the Trussell community have experienced record levels of need as more people struggle to afford the essentials. Last year, at South Liverpool Foodbank we provided 6,816 emergency parcels – and 2,204 of these went to children.
It’s likely that this situation will only worsen during the winter – so this Harvest is a particularly important time for local communities to support their food bank if they possibly can.
We know that many people turn to food bank as a last resort and feel embarrassed that they need to ask for help, but we’re here to offer a warm welcome, provide emergency food and essential items and help people access services that can lift them out of poverty. By coming together and supporting us this Harvest and through to winter you’re not just offering a meal – you’re extending a hand of friendship, combating isolation and helping to provide an environment where everyone is valued.
Resources
If you, your church, school, community group or workplace would like to get involved, there’s lots of great FREE resources listed below to help inspire you.
For churches
Lots of resources here to support your Harvest services and activities. There's our new 'Harvest Reflection' brochure plus 'Trussell Tables' crammed with ideas for collecting food, preparing a meal or organising community gatherings. You can also order free, high-quality printed materials.
Fruit juice domino challenge
This is a great activity that involves collecting long life-juice cartons to make a domino chain around your classroom, office, home or community space (before you donate them to your local food bank). You could even turn it into a race between different teams. See it in action here and please send us your video clip if you take part.
Financial donations
Donations enables us to buy stock we’re short of and invest in infrastructure to continue our work.
